Fundraising Your Volunteer Trip
Volunteering abroad is an excellent way for you to learn about the world, its people, and its issues. But how can you spread this knowledge through your own community?
One of the best ways is to undertake a fundraising campaign, so that you can raise money for a good cause and also familiarize your friends, family, coworkers, neighbours, and even strangers with your volunteer trip. You can raise money to cover the cost of your placement in Thailand and/or to collect money to donate to the orphanage, school, sanctuary, or community group that you work with.
Support From Dragonfly
If you intend to do fundraise, you can discuss your ideas with Dragonfly staff who should be able to offer you useful advice for organization. We'll also provide you with support letters from us and from your host project, so that you can authenticate your efforts.
You can also request your own fundraising page on our website. We'll build you a personal page to which you can add any details you wish about yourself, your placement and the fundraising you're doing.
Fundraising Ideas
Here's a sample of the some of the many ways you can raise money:
- Canvassing for Donations -ask the people in your life to contribute, by email, letter, or in person -put up flyers in your workplace asking for support -ask your employer to sponsor your trip or make a corporate donation to your project
- Meeting Challenges -ask people you know to sponsor you to shave your head, lose weight, run a marathon, climb a mountain, or more!
- Hosting Events -use your skills to teach a special class, with attendance by donation -host a concert/party with a small admission fee -cook (Thai?) dinner for friends and ask them to donate
- Selling Stuffs -make some crafts in your spare time and sell them at local markets -organize a bake sale with your friends -make and sell t-shirts printed with art by Thai children (we can find you some artists!)
