Have you ever studied a foreign language, and then later forgotten it all? There seems to be a global rule for learning languages use it or lose it!
Thai students learn English through primary and secondary school, but in rural areas with few or no foreigners, students seldom get any chance to practice the language. Unfortunately for rural Thai students, having poor English skills means reduced education and job opportunities in the future.
Dragonfly's trying to change this situation by placing volunteers in rural schools where native or near-native English speakers can really help Thai students with their listening and speaking skills. Not only that, but having a foreign volunteer at their school is a very fun and exciting prospect for Thai students who will have an opportunity to learn from you about foreign people and culture!
You'll also have an opportunity to dive deep into Thai culture by living with a Thai host family. Your hosts will open their home to you and act as your guides for learning Thai language and culture.
If you've never taught English before, Dragonfly offers 3 different options (and 1 more for experienced teachers) to help you build up your confidence and teaching skills.
